This year’s penultimate “Quart” begins with an article about heretics and heresy cunningly hiding under the figures of a wolf and a fox (Joanna Dobkowska-Kubacka). Not wanting, however, to immerse too much in the land possessed by demons, we return to art, which for a long time was also considered magical – to photography; in this case to one that allowed us to preserve images of people and events belonging to the world of the ancient aristocracy, found in the collection gathered by Konstanty Zamoyski in Kozłówka (Magdalena Widelska). In order to remain in the world of technology, this time close to construction and industrial architecture, we present an interesting story by Dominika Oleś about the life and work of Emil and Georg Zillmann, creators of such urban layouts in Upper Silesia as Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec, among others. Polish applied art of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, whose outstanding manifestations were found in Zakopane, in the sanatorium of Bronisława and Kazimierz Dłuskis, which no longer exists today, is the subject of Agata Wójcik’s article. And the image of architecture, which is an inseparable, usually fantastic element of the background for the fascinating film stories showing the utopian world of the future, was described by Cezary Wąs. As we know, the end usually crowns the work and in our quarterly magazine it is a discussion of the exhibition “Rubens. The power of transformation”, which took place at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna at the turn of 2017 and 2018, and the related publication (Katarina Kolbiarz Chmelinová).
I can only encourage you to reading, which will allow to recognize “wolves in sheep’s skin” as well as technical novelties that enabled the creation of old photographs, which in a world dominated by Photoshop can be an inspiring activity during shorter and shorter days and longer and longer autumn evenings.
